From a Python script to a web service that calculates feed rations for horses.
The brief
It started as a Python calculator for working out the nutrient balance for a horse. Horse owners otherwise calculate by hand or in spreadsheets, with nutrient values scattered across feed suppliers' sites. The question was whether the calculation could become a service more people could use.
How it was built
The calculation engine was ported to TypeScript and given a React interface. Horse profiles and feeds are stored in a Prisma model, subscriptions go through Stripe and the landing page explains the value without hiding the calculator.
